LED’s have an estimated life of between 25,000 to 50,000 hours at L70 in comparison to traditional incandescent or fluorescent lamps of between 1,000 to 16,000 useful burning hours. They can produce light in a variety of colours and like the  fluorescent tubes that light many offices, can do so without a great deal of glare. Unlike fluorescent tubes though, they can be readily turned on and off without diminishing their lifespan.

Most of the energy emitted from incandescent and fluorescent lamps is converted to heat. LED’s pass electrons through a semiconductor and consequently have no filament to wear out, which means they emit very little heat, unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs that emit light as a current is passed through the metal within them. 

 LED lamps/luminaries provide a long lasting and impressive level of lighting and contain NO harmful chemicals. They retain their true colour and start instantly throughout their life.

An increasing number of LED’s are dimmable. LED’s can now mimic traditional lamps which emit a warmer colour when dimmed. A 13w LED light emits 68pc less carbon dioxide than a standard 40w incandescent bulb, running 10 hours per day.

Good lighting will clearly improve the working environment and has a positive impact on efficiency. The massive reduction (in most cases elimination) of maintenance results in less downtime. Emitting very little heat they could potentially reduce the work of air conditioning units.
